Cookie Policy
How we use cookies on the OMV website.
Last updated: September 2026
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are used to make websites work correctly and securely.
How we use cookies
We use one cookie of our own to keep you signed in to the OMV platform. A few additional cookies are set by third parties we rely on to run the site securely and to take payments. Every cookie used on this website is strictly necessary.
We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or functional-preference cookies, and nothing on this site tracks you across other websites. Because every cookie we use is essential for the website to work, we don’t show a cookie banner and your consent is not required.
Cookies used on this site
Every cookie below is strictly necessary — for signing in, for taking payments securely, or for protecting the site.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| token | OMV | Keeps you signed in to your OMV account. Set when you log in, cleared when you log out. | 90 days |
| __cf_bm | Cloudflare — our security & content-delivery provider | Tells real visitors apart from automated traffic and helps protect the site from attacks. | 30 minutes |
| __stripe_mid | Stripe — our payment provider | Fraud prevention on pages where you can pay (event tickets and paid activity places). Not set on other pages. | 1 year |
| __stripe_sid | Stripe | Fraud prevention during a payment. | 30 minutes |
Our own cookie is httpOnly (cannot be read by browser scripts), sent over HTTPS only, and scoped to the omv.org.uk domain. The Stripe cookies are set only on pages where you can make a payment. The Cloudflare cookie is set on every page as part of protecting the site.
Embedded video
Some pages may embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which sets no cookies unless you press play. If you choose to play an embedded video, YouTube or Vimeo may then set their own cookies, governed by their own privacy policies.
Browser storage (not cookies)
Separately from cookies, and depending on how you use the site, we store a few small values in your browser’s own local storage. These stay on your device, are never sent to us, and you can clear them at any time by clearing your browser’s site data:
- Push notification preferences — whether you’ve been shown the notification prompt, and whether you’ve turned notifications on or off
- “Install app” prompt state — so we don’t keep asking you to install the app once you’ve dismissed it
- A short-lived technical value used to recover cleanly if part of a page fails to load
Cookies we do not use
We do not use:
- Analytics or statistics cookies
- Advertising or targeting cookies
- Third-party marketing cookies
- Functional preference cookies
- Cookies that track you across other websites
How to control cookies in your browser
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Please note that blocking the strictly necessary cookies — in particular our sign-in cookie — will stop parts of the site working, including staying logged in and making payments.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law or how we use cookies. Any updates will be posted on this page.
